Fire attacks parliament building

Nairobi,Thursday, January 12 Fire broke out at the parliament buildings on the evening of Wednesday, January 12 at the Sauna side of parliament.

The sauna area is near where the Kenyan members of parliament have offices.

Immediately, the section was cordoned off as firefighters fought off the inferno that had threatened to raze down the section of the building.

Speaker Justin Muturi said that the fire was reported by parliament staff and engineers were called in to repair an electric fault that had caused the inferno.

The fire was at the intercontinental house that houses the MP’s offices and the national assembly had to be closed to pave way for engineers to work on the section.

The star reports that the fire brigade was called and contained the fire before it spread to the adjacent buildings.

“Parliament would like to clarify that the fire was a result of failed electronic fire temperature controller in the sauna room. Consequently, the room has been closed temporarily,” Muturi told journalists.
