The family of a Kenyan police officer serving in Haiti under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) received the devastating news of his death through social media after a harrowing video circulated by Haitian gangs showed his corpse being abused.
The National Police Service (NPS) had earlier issued a statement confirming that the officer went missing on March 25, 2025, following an ambush along the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in Pont-Sonde, Artibonite Department.
The MSS, in collaboration with Haitian authorities, had launched a search and rescue operation.
However, before official communication reached his family, a graphic video surfaced online, allegedly released by Haitian gangs, showing the officer’s lifeless body being abused.
A person believed to be a member of the Pont Sonde Gang was recorded other gang members slapping the uniformed body of the the slain office.
Distraught relatives confirmed they first learned of his death through the disturbing footage, which has since sparked outrage in Kenya.
The family expressed anguish over the manner in which they received the news, condemning the delay in formal notification from Kenyan authorities.
“Ni uchungu sana, We should not have had to find out this way,” a relative said on condition of anonymity. “It is heartbreaking and unacceptable.”
The National Police Service has yet to publicly confirm the officer’s death but acknowledged the ongoing search.
In their earlier statement, Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga dance around the tragic news and instead commended Kenyan officers in Haiti for their dedication to the mission.
This is the second officer killed by the Haiti gangs.
