The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has send a warning to protesters to conduct themeselves peacefully and lawfully or face the law.
In a statement, the Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga, asked Kenyans to engage in peaceful demonstrations and to avoid actions that could incite violence or hatred.
“Any future acts of violence leading to loss of lives, and/or destruction of private and public property, especially critical infrastructure such as Parliament, Judiciary, and Government facilities, will be met with the fullest force of the law,” declared Ingonga.
The press statement comes in the wake of violent incidents that occurred on June 25, 2024, which resulted in the loss of lives, and destruction of private and public property.
These events have prompted the ODPP to direct the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to swiftly conclude their investigations and forward the findings for further legal action.
The ODPP’s firm message seeks to deter unlawful activities while supporting the democratic principles that allow for peaceful assembly and expression.
