First daughter June Ruto among 66 select senior government officers who graduated yesterday from the National Defence College (NDC) after completing a rigorous year-long prestigious leadership training program.
The graduation ceremony, held at the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) in Karen, saw the First Daughter, who serves as the Director of Foreign Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, join an elite group of security, intelligence, and diplomatic leaders who will shape Kenya’s future strategic policy.

June Ruto was part of a handpicked lot Graduating Cohort No. 27 (2024/25), which included high-ranking officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Intelligence Service (NIS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and other government agencies.
The class also featured participants from allied African and Asian nations.

The graduation turned into a full family celebration, with First Lady Rachel Ruto leading the presidential contingent alongside Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri, and other senior military and government officials.
Also in attendance were June’s husband, Nigerian national Dr. Alexander Ezenagu, her siblings: Nick Ruto, Charlene Ruto, George Ruto, and Stephanie Ruto, who came to support their sister’s milestone achievement.

June Ruto, who has steadily risen through the ranks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was one of only three officials from the ministry selected for the prestigious program.
The others were Abdihakim Rashid (Assistant Director, Foreign Service) and Mwende Mwendwa (Assistant Director, Research), both of whom also graduated yesterday.
The NDC program is designed to equip leaders with advanced strategic thinking, policy formulation, and crisis management skills critical competencies for Kenya’s diplomatic and security apparatus.
