Celebrated NTV journalist Rita Tinina, also known as Ntanina Yiapan, was found dead in her Kileleshwa residence on Sunday afternoon.
According to a police report, Ms. Tinina’s sister, Helen Silau Njaga, received a call around 10:45 am from a colleague informing her that Rita had not reported to work.
Only for her to be later found motionless in her bedroom, according to a police report.
Upon arrival at the house located along Laikipia Road, Ms. Njaga called emergency services, but paramedics confirmed Rita was already deceased.
A police report further states that Ms. Tinina, 46, lived with her 8-year-old daughter, Mia Malaika, and a domestic worker, Nelius Mwihaki Macharia.
Her sister reported that Rita had been suffering from epilepsy and had a severe fever for the past five days.
Police investigators from Kileleshwa and Kilimani stations processed the scene. No physical injuries were found on Ms. Tinina’s body, which was transported to Umash Funeral Home for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kilimani is currently handling the case.
Rita Tinina was a respected journalist with over two decades of experience in Kenyan media. She previously worked at KTN before returning to NTV in October 2023. Her family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
