Opposition leader Raila Odinga appears to be positioning himself for greater influence on the African continent after the African Union (AU) flag was prominently displayed at his Capitol Hill Square office.
The sighting occurred during a recent meeting with Gender Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aisha Jumwa and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
The display of the AU flag is a significant bold gesture, signifying Odinga’s outright interest and confidence in becoming the next African Union Commission (AUC) chair.
The African Union Commission (AUC) is the executive body of the AU, responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization.
The Chairperson of the AUC is elected by heads of state of AU member countries, making it a highly influential and coveted position.
Odinga’s meeting with CS Jumwa and Governor Arati could be interpreted as an effort to build support for a potential AUC bid. Jumwa, a member of President William Ruto’s administration, might serve as a bridge to the current government.
Arati, a key ally of Odinga, could help solidify Odinga’s political base within Kenya.
