Reggae fanatic Stephen Bhingi has called on the government to establish a law that recognises being vertically challenged as a form of disability.
Bhingi, who is 4 feet tall, has asked President William Ruto to Rally parliament and MPs to recognise and anchor in law dwarfism so that the short statured people in the society get some privileges.
Bhingi said short statured people in Kenya are missing out on many benefits including welfare funds because they are not recognised by the law.
“Someone like Me I have never received welfare for short people, I am asking president Ruto that the people in charge of the welfare funds do not reach us”, said Bhingi.
In 2003 the National disability law passed, Persons with Disabilities Act, establishing a National Council for Persons with Disabilities whose mandate is to implement the rest of the act on rights, privileges, and protection.
The law however is not clear on people of short stature.
The Disabilities Act in developed countries recognises dwarfism as a disability because short statured people cannot perform most tasks done by normal and average statured people.
