David Kariuki Ngare, popularly known as Gakuyo, has been arraigne before the Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, facing accusations of defrauding members of Ekeza Sacco Society Limited, Gakuyo Real Estate, and Gakuyo Investors Club a staggering amount of Ksh. 1 Billion.
The Prosecution, led by Vera Omollo, Henry Kinyanjui, and Anne Pertet, filed an application seeking to have Gakuyo detained for four days.
This period is intended to allow investigation officers to finalize their inquiries.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in the affidavit submitted to the court, emphasized that the investigations were in advanced stages, and the requested four days would enable them to complete the necessary inquiries and proceed with charging the accused.
During the hearing, the Prosecution argued that Gakuyo could potentially interfere with witnesses and posed a flight risk. Notably, he was apprehended at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while en route to Zambia.
As the court awaits the ruling on the prosecution’s application, Gakuyo will be held at Muthaiga police station. The decision is anticipated to be delivered on 23/02/2024.
This legal development marks a crucial juncture in the case against Gakuyo, with the authorities diligently pursuing justice for those allegedly defrauded in the substantial financial scheme.
