The Milimani Law Courts have granted the Prosecution a five-day period to detain activist Nuru Maloba Okanga at the Muthaiga police station.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had requested for sufficient time to complete investigations into allegations against Okang’a, including the publication of false information and cyber harassment, violations under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No.5 of 2018.
Prosecution Counsel Virginia Kariuki wanted scrutiny into the continuous spread of harmful comments posted across various social media platforms.
During the court proceedings, the Investigating Officer reported that preliminary investigations had uncovered several suspicious accounts purportedly managed by Okang’a. These accounts are alleged to have disseminated malicious and false information concerning the Republic of Kenya and its leadership, potentially inciting public unrest.
Prosecution Counsel Kariuki emphasized the ongoing investigation into the continuous spread of harmful comments posted across various social media platforms, including TikTok and YouTube, as well as certain websites associated with the suspect. These comments are deemed a threat to peace, order, and public safety.
Authorities have identified Okang’a as a repeat offender in relation to these allegations. The court is scheduled to review the case on June 18, 2024.
