Making a bold fashion statement, the President stepped out in a pair of $945 (Ksh 125,593) Christian Louboutin’s iconic red sole shoes.
When it comes to footwear, there are few signifiers more iconic or more aspirational than Christian Louboutin’s red soles. These shoes, synonymous with luxury and status, have been a staple in high-end fashion since their introduction.
In 2011, Christian Louboutin expanded his empire to include men’s footwear, bringing the red-bottomed shoes to a whole new (but still financially well-heeled) demographic.
President Ruto’s choice to don these luxurious shoes during such a significant national event is a testament to his appreciation for high fashion and his desire to make a statement. 
“He’s a president not a matatu driver,” remarked a fashion commentator.
The reaction from the public has been mixed. While some praised President Ruto for his bold fashion sense, others questioned the appropriateness of wearing such expensive shoes in a country where many still face economic challenges.
